This one was tough. The story behind this commissioned charcoal portrait is one of the most tragic I've ever read. Even more so as a parent, I can't imagine what this woman had to go through. Having done some research, after reading much of the search results, and most especially listening to her TED Talk, Madonna Badger has become an inspiration. The strength & resilience of this woman as she’s overcome unimaginable, horrific, tragedy should be an inspiration to everyone.

I was torn at the beginning whether or not to take this on, for fear that I wouldn't get it right. I'm not typically fond of drawing more than one person, or focal point, but with this one I felt a great sense of pride to take on this challenge, and try to capture everything beyond the tragedy.
